Chris Garner is 22 years old and was raised in a little one-horse town about an hour east of Dallas called Emory. After graduating from Rains High School, Chris moved to Dallas and began pursuing a B.A. in Biblical Studies with a minor in Preaching at Criswell College. As a senior, he currently holds a GPA of 3.700 and plans to seek graduate work once his time at Criswell is finished. Ultimately, Chris hopes to be the pastor of an urban church focused on furthering the kingdom of God. He has a heart for the oppressed and the marginalized and deeply desires to teach the youth of today about the beauty of God’s lavish grace through Jesus Christ, and the beauty of a life devoted to Him.
Before accepting the youth ministry position at Grace, Chris worked on the skateboard staff at Falls Creek Baptist Encampment for three summers. He has also filled pulpits throughout North Texas for the past year and eagerly served in various other ministry capacities including music performances, spoken words, small group leadership over the summer at Falls Creek, and significant involvement on staff for Disciplenow events and youth rallies.
Chris became Grace’s pastoral assistant in 2016. His role is to assist the Lead Pastor in the areas of administration and pastoral care, and to oversee and lead the Youth Ministry of Grace Baptist Church. He will do this through the making of Christ-centered disciples by walking with, teaching, exhorting, rebuking, modeling for, and investing in Grace Baptist Church youth. To help them in coming to saving faith through God’s lavish grace, to edify and build them up in faith, and sustain a culture of discipleship and multiplication with God’s glory as the ultimate aim.
Chris loves to play chess, read fiction books, and hang out with friends and family in his free time. He is also learning to play the drums in the hope that he will be able to play with the worship team on Sundays. He is utterly elated to be serving at Grace Baptist Church and looks forward to seeing you there!
